This course is designed
to be completed in one academic year and
forms the first half of our two year A-level Dutch course. Each
lesson takes between two and four hours of study to complete. You
may study at your own pace and send in your homework assignments
when you are ready. The course is
delivered in three parts. Part 2 and part 3 will be delivered on completion of the preceding part. Please note that there are no listening
or speaking activities in this course as the AS-Level Dutch examination
consists only
of reading, writing, and translation questions.
We usually recommend that
students begin this course in the autumn, say in September or October,
to prepare for the exam the following summer. However, you may start
any time from the end of July until the beginning of January. The
very latest starting date is the second week of January provided
you have the equivalent of an A grade at GCSE and are prepared to
complete 2 lessons per week.
This course is suitable for adults and children
from the age of about 16.
What you will need before starting this course:
The
equivalent of GCSE Dutch grade B or above (grammar
you should be familiar with). We will ask you to complete
our online Dutch test and write a short passage in Dutch before starting this course to ensure that
your level is appropriate.
Access to a computer (so that you can complete your homework assignments).
Access to the Internet (so that you can copy your homework templates and view your course status).
An e-mail account (so that you
can return your homework
assignments and communicate with your teacher).
Microsoft Word or other software that can display the 'track changes' information created by Microsoft Word (for viewing your corrected homework assignments).
A free copy of Adobe Acrobat Reader to view example answers.
Examinations:
You may also
sit your AS-level
Dutch exam or mock exam at our
school in Oxford. The cost of enrolling for the examination and/or
mock examination is in addition to the cost of this course.
